This large international provider of sports betting and casino games in Europe has over 6,000 employees with branches in several countries.
The company uses frevvo with Confluence on daily basis for a multitude of tasks from employee on-boarding to budget management to online ordering. frevvo’s Database Connector allows them to surface frevvo forms and workflows in Confluence that read/write data from their SQL database and easily create dynamic content.
frevvo integrates with our Confluence system as well as other systems without complex APIs. And the best part of all is that frevvo is very cost-effective and feature-rich compared to products that are many times the price.
The reduction of development time to build these business-critical applications has allowed them to focus on other priorities. Business users also appreciate the fact that information is easily available and they have more time to spend with customers.
Customers use Atlassian’s Confluence to increase collaboration, reduce time spent in meetings and email. Many of them combine Confluence with frevvo to automate routine day-to-day tasks like vacation requests, purchase requisitions, sales orders, employee on-boarding, and patient referrals. These are just forms (often paper or PDF or Excel) that are filled out every day and routed around to others for signatures, comments and approvals (email or hand-delivery).
Atlassian’s Confluence is a wiki used by 1000s of companies to connect people with the content and co-workers they need to get their jobs done, faster. Customers use Confluence to increase collaboration, reduce time spent in meetings and email.
But, a big part of people’s day-to-day work is things like completing routine time sheets, job applications, expense reports, vacation requests, purchase requisitions, sales orders, employee on-boarding, patient referrals and the like. These are just forms (often paper or PDF or Excel) that are filled out every day and routed around to others for signatures, comments and approvals (email or hand-delivery).
These routine tasks end up wasting a lot of time. From chasing down colleagues and bosses for signatures to misunderstood and poorly defined processes to lack of 24×7 access on all devices, these tasks can be an expensive proposition.
We provide an Add-On for Confluence that lets you add forms, workflows and the associated task lists to Confluence. Users then simply logon to Confluence, go to the appropriate Confluence page, fill out the form that’s embedded on that page and Submit. frevvo will route as required, send notifications to the appropriate people and remind them if necessary. When the next person in the workflow needs to act on the request, he/she can approve/comment/reject directly in Confluence.
It’s as easy as that. It’s 2016! There’s simply no excuse for outdated, manual systems that cause delays, result in unhappy employees and wasted time and money.
In Part 3 of this series, we looked at how you can create a form or workflow and accumulate submissions on a Confluence page.
But, customers often want to create and update Confluence pages from frevvo forms for structured content. An example is an application to manage client contact information.
Let’s say you want to create a Confluence page for each client. The Confluence rich text editor is one way to manage these pages. But, it’s hard to keep the pages consistent, eliminate errors and enforce business constraints with the Confluence editor. That’s where frevvo comes in.
Instead of creating/updating these pages using Confluence’s editor, you can use a form. The form enforces structure, business rules, validation etc. When the form is submitted, frevvo will generate a Confluence page for the client; the page can be named using data from the form (e.g. client name).
frevvo can also generate an Edit link on the page. When clicked, it takes you back to the form pre-filled with the client data. You can edit the data and submit. frevvo will then update the client page with the updated data.
In Part 2 of this Series, we saw how to create a simple survey form in Confluence and view submission data or download it to MS Excel. But sometimes, people want to do more. They want to format the results as a table and add a graph, display the results in specific ways etc.
Confluence and its rich set of plugins is the ideal platform for this and with frevvo Live Forms you can now easily create forms [and even workflows] and collect submissions on a Confluence page. Then, use arbitrary macros to create tables, charts, Tab views etc. It’s a powerful way to leverage the unique capabilities of both platforms.
Does your organization use Confluence for collaboration? If so, you can easily expand your Confluence-based Intranet so employees can do some of the common things organizations do like surveys and event registrations without needing a programmer every time.
Imagine that your marketing employees could create a Confluence page, add an event registration form to it, view the registrations in Confluence or download them to Excel. All by themselves without I.T. involvement, setup, databases or anything.
Atlassian’s Confluence is a wiki used by 1000s of companies to connect people with the content and co-workers they need to get their jobs done, faster. Confluence has an intuitive, rich-text editor that makes it easy for anyone to edit pages and create content. Works great for relatively unstructured content.
But, a big part of people’s day-to-day work is structured content – routine time sheets, job applications, expense reports, vacation requests, purchase requisitions, sales orders, employee on-boarding, patient referrals and the like. These are just forms (often paper or PDF or Excel) that are filled out every day and routed around to others for signatures, comments and approvals (email or hand-delivery).
frevvo is fully integrated with Confluence and employees can collaborate efficiently on their day-to-day tasks in the same, familiar environment.
It’s hard to do this in Confluence. Consider a simple Vacation Request. You can’t just create a new Confluence page because you want to take next week off and then expect your supervisor to Edit it and approve or comment back.
That’s where frevvo comes in. We provide an Add-On for Confluence that lets you add forms, workflows and the associated task lists to Confluence. Users then simply logon to Confluence, go to the Vacation Request page, fill out the form that’s embedded on that page and Submit. frevvo will route as required, send notifications to the appropriate people and remind them if necessary. When the next person in the workflow needs to act on the request, he/she can approve/comment/reject directly in Confluence.
Instead of wasting time chasing signatures, let your people focus on serving customers, students & patients.

Finnair is one of the most innovative and longest-operating airlines in the world. The airline specializes in flights between Asia and Europe, and its vision is to be the number one airline in the Nordic countries and the most desired option in Asian traffic. At the end of 2013, Finnair employed 5,803 people.
Finnair has faced severe cost savings needs during the last several years as the industry structures have been changing. As a way of finding cost savings and means of increasing operational efficiency Finnair aimed to digitize its form processes and workflows. Consequently, minimizing the manual work in handling and correcting the paper forms, making the coordination of up-to-date form versions easier, ensuring correct workflows and archiving methods as well as increasing process lead times were essential objectives.
Overall the project was a success as we overcame the challenges faced during the project. The digital MSR report provides optimal information sharing and accelerates and strengthens our corrective actions. – Niko Pakarinen, Safety and Quality Advisor, Finnair
Working with our partner Ambientia, Finnair chose frevvo Live Forms because of its:
suitability in terms of ease of use (and extending the use of the form application independently throughout the corporate organization)
agility in terms of workflows
enterprise readiness in terms of integrations with Finnair’s intranet platform as well as operational systems.
The first project in introducing Frevvo within Finnair was developing maintenance and safety report for Finnair Operations. For this project, extensive integrations were made between Frevvo and Confluence (intranet platform) as well as a Grails based integration application and Q-Pulse (operational safety report system).
The challenges faced throughout this project were extensive as it involved integrating several applications across several platforms. The connection between Confluence and Frevvo was the easiest part of the integration and the business rules and functions available in Frevvo made the rest of the integration possible as Frevvo was configured to make API calls to the Grails platform, which in turn made API calls towards the Q-Pulse system. – Eric Salonen, Solutions Expert, Ambientia
In future, Finnair aims to develop new digital form processes (workflows) with frevvo Live Forms and to widen the use of the solution to other business areas.
The Road to Hybrid Cloud. The cloud computing model continues to create a larger and larger footprint in the IT landscape as enterprises pursue the model’s benefits including but not limited to: 1) shared resources 2) facilitated access to information and resources from anywhere on any device 3) on demand provisioning and reallocation of computational resources. The greatest benefits are typically achieved using public cloud services however most organizations are unwilling to put ALL their data (particularly sensitive information) into public cloud solutions. In order to still reap the benefits of the cloud computing model, organizations will implement some solutions on internal private cloud platforms.
What is Hybrid Cloud and How Does It Work. A hybrid cloud refers to an environment that runs both public and private cloud services AND provides a way to to share data between them. Typically the data shared with public cloud services is limited and secured/encrypted to reduce exposure. Exposing a server within your firewall to a public cloud service is not what we mean by hybrid. A hybrid cloud connects 2 or more internal and external cloud platforms in such a way that they can exchange information.
What Are the Advantages. A hybrid cloud allows organizations to leverage the efficiency gains of the cloud computing model without having to expose all their data to public cloud services by providing mechanisms to securely share data. Once mechanisms have been defined for exchanging data between internal and external cloud platforms, CIOs can incrementally control what data is exposed to public cloud solutions. The ability to integrate internal data with external/public cloud services is hugely beneficial (if not required) to leverage public cloud services in a compelling and useful fashion.
The Benefits of frevvo. When you sign up for an account on app.frevvo.com, you’re using frevvo in the public cloud. If you deploy frevvo within your organization, you are setting up frevvo as a multi-tenant, private cloud solution. Either way, there are many examples of frevvo participating in hybrid cloud architectures. A frevvo account running in the public cloud could be configured to securely access LDAP information running within a private cloud. Enterprises running frevvo within their private cloud infrastructure can write data to google spreadsheets (public cloud). Another example is utilizing frevvo’s database connector to allow frevvo from either a public or private cloud to integrate with any back-end relational database.
In Summary. This cloud computing phenomenon migrates both, public cloud and private cloud services, to solve your business needs. From small business to large enterprises, being able to keep private information secure as well as hosting public information is very beneficial. As noted on the infographic (pictured to the left) using frevvo in the hybrid cloud is a business strategy to lead you to successful business agility. Our cloud based product is mobile ready, with a drag & drop easy design, that allows you to create custom forms and workflows to increase business agility.
