This is another key insight from Salesforce’s 2016 State of I.T. report.

Four of the top seven pain points that I.T. leaders face are related to the skills gap. One-third of I.T. teams struggle to keep skills current.

We’re not surprised – it’s a common theme that keeps coming up. It is probably the single most important reason customers buy our product. They just don’t have enough skilled I.T. resources and the ones they have are too busy fighting fires like dealing with legacy systems or problems with the database. Who’s got the time to make life easier for employees by automating the routine day-to-day stuff? After all, it’s working. Kind of. Inefficiently. But it’s not an immediate fire.

That’s why frustrated business people turn to frevvo – we obsess about the user interface and make it easier and easier to meet key business requirements like electronic signatures and PDF generation (Government W-4) using fewer scarce resources.

72% of I.T. leaders say that addressing the talent shortage will be absolutely critical over the next 5-8 years and most of them think it’s an immediate top priority.

Speed wins the race: top performers develop apps faster

speed-winsSalesforce Research published their 2016 State of I.T. report yesterday with many interesting insights.

72% of high performing companies develop an app in three months or less.

Once gain, the report clearly highlights the importance of being able to react and respond quickly to rapid changes in business conditions. And, as we’ve said before, the #1 challenge facing organizations today in this area is a shortage of talent.

Your talented employees should be helping customers and taking advantage of new business opportunities. Why would you have them chasing paper or trying to track down an approval that’s stuck on the CFO’s desk? It makes no sense.

That’s where frevvo can help. You can start with a pre-built template, customize it to meet your unique business needs, deploy it securely in the Cloud (or On-Premise if you prefer), and do it all in days. It’ll automatically work on mobile devices. You don’t have to do anything.

Business Insights with frevvo

At frevvo, we’re gearing up for some big new feature releases this year. Our Engineers are hard at work right now on one of the most frequently requested [and delayed] features – Business Insights. We have a long list of powerful capabilities for real-world business applications (mobile forms, database connectivity, XML, workflow etc.) but it hasn’t been easy to see what’s going on operationally. That’ll change over the next few releases.

Monitor/Analyze in flexible ways.

You’ll be ableworkflow-by-state to view things like:

  • Which workflows are in process now?
  • Who are they waiting for?
  • How much time is being spent in each state?
  • What’s the average time in each state?
  • What regions are applications coming from?

etc. There are really an infinite number of ways to slice and dice.

Top-notch User Experience

widgetsWe think that usability and aesthetics are two sides of the same coin. If it doesn’t look good, no one will use it.

  • Many ways to visualize – pie charts, bar charts, gauges, tables, stacked charts etc. Choose whatever makes the most sense for your needs.
  • Like everything in frevvo, it’ll all just work automatically on mobile devices and look natural. You don’t have to do anything.
  • You can use dashboards/widgets in frevvo Spaces (which themselves look good on mobile) so you can access your forms & workflows and your dashboards from one place.

Easy Customization & Reusability

dashboard-designerWe’ve said before that the scarcest resource in most organizations is talent. Yet,in today’s business environment, it’s even more important to provide decision makers with timely information. Visual dashboards and reports can really help.

  • Create your own dashboards just like you create forms. Drag & drop from a palette and hook the widget up to the data. That’s it. Under the covers, the dashboard is literally just a form (without a Submit button).
  • You can use familiar techniques to position widgets, size them, show/hide them, dynamically update them etc. They behave just like form controls. There’s nothing new to learn.
  • Since they ARE forms/flows, everything else works – internationalization, accessibility, access control, embedding, sharing, mobile views – it stays the same.
  • Since charts/widgets are just regular controls, you’ll be able to use them anywhere in your forms as well (the ones with Submit buttons). No restrictions.
  • Other areas of frevvo e.g. Submissions Views & Task List are also being improved to use some of these capabilities to provide a much better user experience.

Now, it’s going to take some time to get all this done and we’ll deliver over the course of many releases throughout the rest of the year. But we’re super-excited about these coming features. We’ll keep you updated via this blog or by email. Join our mailing list if you’d like to learn more.

Talent not Security is now the #1 Cloud Challenge

talentIMHO, this is the most important insight from Rightscale’s 2016 State of the Cloud Survey. Lack of resources/expertise has supplanted security as the top challenge in cloud.

We see this in so many ways. It’s probably one of the most important reasons customers buy our product.

They’re simply don’t have enough talented I.T. resources. People are too busy maintaining legacy systems or worrying about the SQL database to spend time on automating the routine stuff, making it look beautiful and usable on all devices. Frustrated business people turn to solutions like frevvo – we obsess about the user interface and make it easier and easier to meet talent2key business requirements like electronic signatures and PDF generation (Government W-4) using fewer scarce resources.

Interestingly, another key area is the intersection of talent & security. Customers simply don’t have sufficient expertise in their organizations to understand Cloud Security. Automated workflows in frevvo’s Cloud are far more useful if they can integrate with internal systems (authentication, database etc.). We offer several well-tested mechanisms for this integration. But, it’s common to hit a roadblock inside the organization. And, it’s understandable – security breaches can have a devastating impact and everyone knows who will get blamed. Luckily, as companies gain more experience with the Cloud, they’re understanding security better and it’s less of an issue.

Talent is increasingly scarce across the board – from coding (especially UX) to security to analytics. Whether you’re large or small. In all industries. You have to get rid of daily inefficiencies and focus your talent where they can make a difference.

Hybrid Cloud Adoption has hit its stride

Rightscale just released their brand new 2016 State of the Cloud Survey with some interesting insights. It affirms what many other reports have concluded: Cloud Adoption is growing and

Hybrid Cloud is the preferred strategy in enterprises.

hybrid-201671% of companies are using hybrid cloud environments. It makes sense: for Cloud Apps to be truly useful, they need access to internal systems. That’s just common sense. We see our customers choosing hybrid cloud for many reasons but the most important one is:

Business processes running in the cloud are far more effective if they’re integrated with important data in business systems such as HR systems, databases and authentication systems.

These systems won’t go to the Cloud overnight for sure and maybe not for years. Hybrid Cloud is then obvious. If you’re a CIO, you can take an incremental approach and start seeing benefits quickly without having to move internal business systems and data wholesale to the cloud.

Our customers are increasingly taking advantage of this approach. We provide a Database Connector, secure Active Directory/LDAP support, Microsoft Azure AD, SAML for single sign on, a File Connector so you can save files to a network drive, and a Google Apps Connector so you can update a Google Sheet and/or upload files to Google Drive.

Finnair digitizes forms & approval workflows to save costs and increase operational efficiency

Finnair is one of the most innovative  and longest-operating airlines in the world. The airline specializes in flights between Asia and Europe, and its vision is to be the number one airline in the Nordic countries and the most desired option in Asian traffic. At the end of 2013, Finnair employed 5,803 people.

finnair

Finnair has faced severe cost savings needs during the last several years as the industry structures have been changing. As a way of finding cost savings and means of increasing operational efficiency Finnair aimed to digitize its form processes and workflows. Consequently, minimizing the manual work in handling and correcting the paper forms, making the coordination of up-to-date form versions easier, ensuring correct workflows and archiving methods as well as increasing process lead times were essential objectives.

Overall the project was a success as we overcame the challenges faced during the project. The digital MSR report provides optimal information sharing and accelerates and strengthens our corrective actions. – Niko Pakarinen, Safety and Quality Advisor, Finnair

Working with our partner Ambientia, Finnair chose frevvo Live Forms because of its:

  • suitability in terms of ease of use (and extending the use of the form application independently throughout the corporate organization)
  • agility in terms of workflows
  • enterprise readiness in terms of integrations with Finnair’s intranet platform as well as operational systems.

The first project in introducing Frevvo within Finnair was developing maintenance and safety report for Finnair Operations. For this project, extensive integrations were made between Frevvo and Confluence (intranet platform) as well as a Grails based integration application and Q-Pulse (operational safety report system).

The challenges faced throughout this project were extensive as it involved integrating several applications across several platforms. The connection between Confluence and Frevvo was the easiest part of the integration and the business rules and functions available in Frevvo made the rest of the integration possible as Frevvo was configured to make API calls to the Grails platform, which in turn made API calls towards the Q-Pulse system. – Eric Salonen, Solutions Expert, Ambientia

In future, Finnair aims to develop new digital form processes (workflows) with frevvo Live Forms and to widen the use of the solution to other business areas.

[Infographic] Accounting & Financial Process Automation

Print
In a previous article we talked about how senior finance executives at companies are optimistic about the U.S. economy (56%) and about their own company’s performance (69%). But, they’re concerned about inefficiencies and willing to invest in technology to improve performance.

The fact is that even routine, day-to-day processes such as vendor invoices, purchase orders, and expense reports take an exorbitant amount of time if done manually. Employees and managers are waiting longer than necessary for reimbursement claims to go through, or to order a key piece of equipment. There’s also a much higher rate of inaccuracy in the manual process.

Check out this new infographic on the value/benefits of automating your day-to-day accounting workflows.

It’s 2016! There’s simply no excuse for outdated, manual systems that cause delays in cash-flow, infrastructure investments and responsiveness.

With affordable, cloud-based workflow products for financial process automation, there’s no need to deal with printing PDF sales orders for signatures, correcting Excel-based expense reports, or tracking down approvals in email.
